The imagery originated from the idea that memory and our outlook on it is changed by the actions and occurrences of the present, but it has become much more. The train serves as a symbol of the mind, to me, I see it as the coming and going, people entering in and out, in a continuous loop. Similar to how we as people often circle around and back to the same memories. Each of the figures has a house as a head, and those are my childhood homes. Each of the figures’ ages correlate to the age I was in that home. They stare at the viewer in a confrontational sense, making themselves the focal point. With this piece I was communicating how I often loop back to memories in these homes, and although I may wish them not to, they confront me. Light streams in through the windows, creating a sense of illumination in the train car. This causes a contrast between the windows and the darkest parts. A strong sense of line and perspective leads down the train car, as it recedes to the right.
