These paintings were done on over 20 sheets of canvas pad, coming together to create a 48 in. by 48 in. large piece. Pictured in my portfolio is a smaller selection of the paintings. Each painting was done by applying a thin layer of oil paint across the whole canvas sheet before subtracting that paint with multiple materials such as rags and q-tips to create forms. This series captures the abandoned architecture of my home state, South Carolina. These places are ones I’m familiar with and have either taken images of myself or had a family member gather for reference. I applied a warm color palette that unified each of the paintings into the series. Preliminary work was important with these paintings, prior to beginning I studied painting foliage and textures such as brick extensively.
