I allowed this project to lead itself into the shape that formed by building the coils, becoming heart-like. I utilized hollow circular extrusions to represent the arteries and veins. The hollow cavity in the center of the form creates more interest in the negative space of the sculpture. I applied slab forms to each side of the form to illustrate the ventricles of a heart and engage the surface. The vein extrusions are repeated on each side of the sculpture and accentuate the heart form while also moving the viewer’s eye around the vessel. During the glazing process, I embraced mistakes and allowed for the glaze poured into the openings of each artery and the center to leak out and become drips.
